School Interrupted: Schizophrenia

I fell ill with schizophrenia in sixth grade, which interrupted my school and social activities, including maintaining friendships and dating. The illness prevented me from participating in all activities for approximately two years. When I finally was able to return to school, I was in a special education classroom. But I did not fit in with the other students. Schizophrenia made it difficult for me to be around other people and to concentrate. As a result, I was unable to complete high school. Instead, I obtained a GED, a high school equivalency certificate.
