Paralympic Movement : 74th Anniversary 🎂 | Paralympic Games

On 29 July 1948, Sir Ludwig Guttmann created the first competition for wheelchair athletes at the Stoke Mandeville hospital. It was the start of the Paralympic Movement. He couldn’t imagine that 12 years later it would become the first Paralympic Games, in Rome.

The International Paralympic Committee’s vision is to make for an inclusive world through Para sport. Our mission is to lead the Paralympic Movement, oversee the delivery of the Paralympic Games and support members to enable Para athletes to achieve sporting excellence.
